Robert Moffat
Lead FX Artist at Treyarch
Gary is a great FX artist with many years of experience to pull from. He was always someone I could rely on to just get the job done. His FX were consistently solid and he was always open and receptive to any and all feedback which not only made him extremely easy to work with but showed a maturity and flexibility that younger artists can struggle with. In addition to being a great FX artist, Gary is just an all around great guy that brought a fun dry sense of humor to work daily and always made me laugh. I would recommend Gary for an FX role in any studio.

Kevin Reichwein
Visual FX Artist at Treyarch
Gary is truly something else, it was definitely a pleasure working with him on Black Ops 4. This guy has a wonderful eye for detail and incredible range between artistic styles. He picked up the proprietary tools very quickly and started churning out quality FX right out the door. Whether it be ambient FX, character abilities, or large cinematic events, Gary consistently and rapidly delivered results that hit our visual mark. If that weren’t enough, he possesses the most important quality in a co-worker: he was just an easygoing and fun guy to be around! I very much hope our professional paths cross again someday!.

Terry Allen
Lead VFX Artist at Toys for Bob
Gary is a pleasure to work with, he’s talented, has much pertinent experience, is enthusiastic, very friendly, and has a great humor. He's a hard worker, he produced a lot of great work quickly, he was also able to come up to speed on our tools quickly. All the designers enjoyed working with him, he'd have detailed discussions with them about what they want and then work with them closely while constructing those FXs. He takes feedback very well, he’s great at addressing it even though there were occasionally multiple sources of sometimes contradictory opinions. He did a great job on varied assignments, from the sometimes crazily elaborate character FXs to the mundane blowing dust motes. I was very lucky to get Gary to work here and would definitely hire him again if I have the opportunity.

Working with Gary has been an exceptional experience. He is able to take ideas from designers and take them in outstanding creative directions that not only support the core goals of design, but also add new meaningful and inseparable aesthetic depth to the work. Iterating on feedback with him was great, and we were always able to arrive at solutions that had every facet of developments' interests in mind. Great, friendly attitude, and always a pleasure to work with!

Tom Tobey
Sr. Animator at Daybreak Games
I had the pleasure to spend the last five years trapped in a cube with Gary Daugherty. Gary is an extremely talented effects/particle artist. He makes everything look better in game. He had the difficult task of using an old engine and making effects look new, and he made EQ2 look like a next generation game. He is a pleasure to work with, brightens the day with his sense of humor and any company that hires him will have added a valuable artist to their staff.

Dave Brown II
Associate Art Director at Daybreak Games
Gary was great at getting our VFX needs done. He was very good at self managing his time and producing large amounts of work on or before dates needed. Gary was very open to feed back and easy to work with. He could change direction in a moment’s notice and was able to fulfill the entire request coming at him whether from design, character art team or the environment team.
Gary was a pleasure to work with and I look forward to working with him again in the future.

Kyle Vallee
Lead Designer at Daybreak Games
Gary Daugherty is a highly talented, highly motivated, self starter. I have worked with Gary for over 8 years and in that time, anything VFX related was done ahead of time and done to greater than my requested expectations. He is very talented, has a strong understanding of colors, and knows how to make any effect feel alive. He understands action and fun. He can add depth to anything game play oriented.
Year after year, Gary was our MVP for expansions, live events and progression. Gary did an entire spell effect revamp for EverQuest II making better more action oriented effects for class spells, that had the goal of improving performance and making it fun to have your personal spell effects on for all classes.
I would work with Gary anytime, anyplace and hope sincerely that I get to work with him again in the future.

Nathan McCall
Senior Game Designer at Daybreak Games
Gary consistently rises to any VFX challenge presented to him. He naturally works well with others, looking for feedback and input in his work to ensure that it fulfills the designer's needs. He can always be counted on for delivering the end result with quality, and ahead of schedule.
Being a self driven VFX artist, between design requests Gary would push himself and start new projects, one of which was an entire revamp of the EQII character spell FX. His eye for detail and desire to create an organized and tiered system of FX was a success, resulting in a reduced cost of spell particles, while ensuring that they were visually much more impressive.
Gary is self driven, dependable and organized. He's an asset to any team!

Tim Heydelaar
Art Director at Daybreak Games
I worked with Gary on EverQuest II for several years. While on our art team, Gary was tasked with creating and implementing effects work across our characters, environments, weapons and spells (player and npc). Gary would take a static character/mount/etc and add that needed spark to it, often at his own direction. Environments were brought to life and weapons oozed that epic look courtesy of his touch. Gary would also integrate sound and animations in to the effects as well, sometimes composing entire visual scenarios through effect work alone. He always had creative ideas and solutions for the unique situations we found ourselves in.
Gary was always mindful of deadlines and communicated directly with every department (from art to sound to design) to create any effect needed for almost any idea we came up with. He was performance minded (once tasked with redoing and optimizing the hundreds of original player spells) and worked to integrate the visual and design goals of any project assigned to him. Against an aggressive and evolving release schedule, Gary was always able to iterate, create or adapt to any situation that came up.
Gary was a pleasure to work with and I would recommend him to any company looking for an effects artist with his qualifications.
